Medical Administrative Specialist
The medical administrative specialist serves a key role in today’s fast-paced, high-tech medical settings. Having a sincere desire to help people and learn the complexities of the evolving healthcare industry, a medical administrative specialist must also be competent in electronic health records, management of practice finances, insurance processing, software applications, and office management tasks. The content in the Medical Administrative Specialist Program provides educational opportunities for those interested in working in physician practices; large healthcare and allied health organizations such as clinics, hospitals, and foundations; insurance companies, and medical billing companies. Students receive specialized training in medical terminology, electronic health records, health insurance, coding and billing, medical transcription, practice management software, and Microsoft Office Suite software.
Students will also be prepared to earn official certifications in various computer applications used in the healthcare industry. In addition, students will complete work experience where they will be able to apply their knowledge of medical administrative office functions.
Student who complete this program may be eligible to articulate to State College of Florida and receive credit for work they completed in their Suncoast program.
Program completion takes approximately 10 months (1050 hours), full time and 20 months part time (half day, 3-hour morning or afternoon sessions).

- Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Bundle Certification
- Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA)
Obtainment Time Frame: In program
Reading, math, and language competencies are pre-assessed. The required basic skills grade levels are Reading-10, Math-10, and Language-10 and must be met prior to program completion.
